The Role & Impact As a Senior Product Manager in Banking Experience, you will own the reconciliation review experience, the human layer that sits on top of Auto Bank Rec (ABR), one of the biggest Xero product launches last year. ABR uses AI to automatically reconcile bank transactions for small businesses and accountants, and as we invest further in automating that work, the review experience becomes the critical part: it lets customers trust the automation and move to a healthy reconciliation state faster. You will drive time-to-value, the core metric for our global banking suite, by pushing this experience from today's manual checks toward true management by exception where routine reconciliation happens automatically and people only step in for what genuinely needs their judgement. You will step into a pivotal, high-visibility space, balancing product strategy with practical execution. Moving between big-picture and technical implementation, you will work closely with engineering, machine learning, and cross-functional partners, including defining how we evaluate model quality as automation expands to turn product ambiguity into clear, actionable roadmaps that extend bank rec beyond its current form into a more conversational, AI-native experience across the surfaces customers actually work in. This role is based in New Zealand working as part of a globally distributed banking organization. The Team You will join a collaborative team of Product Managers in NZ who lead different facets of our banking experience, alongside a broader distributed organization. The team works seamlessly with dedicated engineering pods, user experience designers, and cross-functional stakeholders across global time zones. Together, you will foster an open environment where data-driven ideas are shared, tested, and transformed into impactful software solutions. Initially you will focus on - Ramping up on the current state of Auto Bank Rec and the reconciliation review experience to establish a prioritised near-term roadmap. - Partnering with engineering teams to push the management-by-exception model further, reducing what customers need to check by hand. - Defining key success metrics, eval frameworks, and dashboards to track quality, review effort, and time-to-value as automation scales. - Establishing clear, consensus-driven product requirements alongside design and engineering partners for expanding reconciliation into new, AI-native surfaces. Here are some of the things we are looking for - A background in B2B SaaS product management, with experience defining complex product features involving automation, AI/ML-powered workflows, or high-trust review experiences. - Demonstrated capability in taking a product area from early-stage ambiguity to a fully realized, evidence-based strategy. - Comfort working alongside technical teams, including engineering and machine learning peers to guide technical decision-making, define evals for model performance, and balance trade-offs around automation and trust. - Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities, using data, user logs, and direct feedback to inform decision-making. - Exceptional written and asynchronous communication skills to engage stakeholders across distributed, cross-timezone teams. - A collaborative mindset that thrives when partnering with peer Product Managers, UX designers, and cross-functional groups. Where and how you can work This role is based in New Zealand working as part of a globally distributed banking organization. We support flexible hybrid working options that combine collaborative, in-person team days with the focus time of working from home. Apply even if your experience isn't a perfect match! At Xero, we hire based on your skills, passion, and the unique perspective you can bring to enhance our culture and team.
