About the team - The Privacy & Regulatory Counsel will join Plaid’s Privacy & Regulatory Legal team, which supports Plaid in building infrastructure and products responsibly by translating complex regulatory expectations into concrete guidance. - We are a lean, highly collaborative team that includes Privacy and Regulatory counseling. Role Description - As Privacy & Regulatory Counsel at Plaid, you will partner with cross-functional teams to analyze complex legal and regulatory issues, provide practical guidance, and support business initiatives in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. - This role is ideal for an ambitious attorney who exhibits a growth mindset and eagerness to learn. We value strong communicators who can empathize with business partners, deliver solutions-oriented advice, and foster trust with colleagues at all levels. Responsibilities - Monitor and analyze new or changing laws, regulations, supervisory guidance, enforcement activity, and industry developments - and translate them into concise and practical guidance. - Answer questions about regulatory compliance for Product, Governance, People, and other cross functional teams. - Maintain Plaid’s regulatory policies, positions, and analyses. - Support our Policy team on proactive engagement with policymakers, regulators, and government officials. - Partner with Compliance, Security, and operational owners to assess risks and implement and operationalize relevant updates. - Create training and enablement materials that help cross functional teams understand and apply regulatory requirements in their day-to-day work. Requirements - J.D. or equivalent law degree and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar, in good standing in the relevant jurisdiction. - 5+ years of legal experience providing solutions-oriented advice in a reputable law firm or in-house legal department. - Strong knowledge of U.S. financial-services, consumer-protection, privacy, and AI / ADMT regulations. - Experience with GLBA, FCRA, UDAAP, PIPEDA, GDPR, state privacy laws, and related regulatory frameworks. - Experience monitoring and interpreting statutes, regulations, supervisory guidance, enforcement actions, and regulatory trends and providing actionable guidance to business partners. - Familiarity with regulatory-change management, compliance-program design, policy governance, risk assessments, control implementation, and evidence of compliance. - Strong legal judgment, analytical skills, issue-spotting, organization, and attention to detail. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex issues to non-lawyer audiences. - A collaborative and proactive approach, with a willingness to share information early, engage the right partners, and drive clear follow-through. - Comfort working through ambiguity and recommending risk-based options in a fast-moving environment. - Experience supporting businesses operating in regulated industries is strongly preferred.
