Key Responsibilities
- Serve as product counsel partnering with founding members of the life sciences team on product design, development, and deployment
- Support go-to-market activities by drafting and negotiating agreements and advising on contracting strategy
- Drive zero-to-one development of Abridge's Life Sciences legal strategy and guardrails
- Provide actionable legal guidance on regulatory, privacy, and compliance matters including HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, and evolving AI/ML landscape
- Advise on healthcare regulatory compliance including FDA, FTC, fraud and abuse laws (FCA, AKS), and related state laws
- Partner with cross-functional teams including policy, partner experience, marketing, IT, finance, and corporate
Requirements
- Experience providing legal counsel to product, engineering, and strategy teams in healthcare or life sciences
- Knowledge of healthcare privacy regulations including HIPAA and CCPA/CPRA
- Understanding of healthcare regulatory frameworks such as FDA, FTC, FCA, and AKS
- Ability to draft and negotiate agreements and advise on contracting strategy
- Experience advising on AI/ML and emerging technology compliance matters
- Skill in embedding legal and compliance frameworks into product lifecycles

THE ROLE As Associate General Counsel - Life Sciences, you will be the first legal counsel dedicated to our newly created life sciences business. You will serve as a trusted advisor to product, engineering, and strategy teams, embedding legal and compliance frameworks into our product lifecycle. You will deliver practical, business-oriented guidance that supports innovation while ensuring compliance with healthcare, privacy, and other regulatory requirements. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the direction of our life sciences business as a founding member of an innovative new product line. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Serve as product counsel, partnering across the founding members of our life sciences team including product, engineering and strategy to support product design, development, and deployment. - Support go to market activities, including drafting and negotiating agreements and advising on contracting strategy - Drive zero-to-one development of Abridge's Life Sciences legal strategy and guardrails. - Provide actionable legal guidance on regulatory, privacy, and compliance matters, including HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, and the evolving AI/ML landscape. - Advise on healthcare regulatory compliance, including FDA, FTC, fraud and abuse (FCA, AKS), and related state laws. - Partner with other cross-functional teams including policy, partner experience, marketing, IT, finance, corporate development, and commercial to ensure alignment and mitigate risk. - Support privacy impact assessments, compliance risk assessments, and data governance efforts and frameworks. - Coordinate with external counsel to resolve specialist issues and ensure fast delivery of actionable legal guidance and risk analysis. - Monitor emerging regulations around AI, data use, and healthcare technology and advise internal stakeholders on their implications. WHAT YOU’LL BRING - 10+ years of legal experience, including 2+ years in a dedicated life sciences role. - Passion for Abridge’s mission and the energy and drive to support a fast-moving product and operational teams. - Strong understanding of and experience with pharmaceutical / biotech products and solutions. - Proven ability to communicate and translate complex regulatory and legal concepts into clear, practical guidance for non-legal counterparts and colleagues. - Comfort and confidence with juggling a high volume of projects, tight timelines, and competing priorities. - Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise business judgement; interest in joining a small team that prioritizes autonomy and trust. - Proven ability to work cross-functionally, particularly with technical teams, designers, and commercial teams, building relationships and earning their confidence. - Creativity in solving and navigating novel legal matters; experience in crafting new processes and language to meet the needs of a rapidly-moving enterprise in a novel industry. - Familiarity with recent trends in artificial intelligence, particularly with large language models and responsible AI principles.
