As a Senior Backend Engineer, you are a builder at heart, excited to mentor others, and thrive on delivering solutions that scale. What You’ll Do As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll architect and build the core services that power Streamline, our workflow orchestration platform. The Workflow Orchestration team owns the heart of the platform-the engine that executes, schedules, and reliably coordinates complex, long-running business processes at scale. You'll work closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and data teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance services that meet the needs of our customers. You'll also leverage modern AI-assisted development tools-such as Cursor, Claude, and other cutting-edge AI coding assistants-to accelerate delivery, raise code quality, and drive innovation. - Design and develop high-performance, scalable microservices in Java that form the foundation of the Streamline platform - Build and operate the workflow orchestration engine using Temporal to execute reliable, durable, long-running processes - Design fault-tolerant, distributed systems that guarantee correctness and recoverability across complex multi-step workflows - Explore and implement AI-based solutions to make orchestration smarter-automating routing, decisioning, and self-healing workflows - Integrate AI agents into the platform to support autonomous and semi-autonomous workflow execution and optimization - Architect solutions that meet strict compliance requirements (HIPAA, SOC 2, PCI DSS) - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system specifications and technical requirements - Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical decision-making processes - Implement robust error handling, observability, and automated recovery mechanisms - Participate in code reviews and maintain high code quality standards How You’ll Succeed - Deliver with a “Wow the Customer” mindset - creating real value for users and stakeholders - Stay hungry - seek out opportunities, feedback, and ways to improve - Diagnose challenges and deliver thoughtful, practical solutions - Leverage AI, tools, and collaboration to supercharge your work - Thrive on the edge - embrace change, ambiguity, and the pace of a high-growth environment - Act as a mentor and guide for junior engineers, fostering growth and best practices What We’re Looking For - Strong expertise in Java and Spring frameworks - Strong experience with Temporal (or comparable workflow orchestration engines) and distributed workflow design - Experience building microservices and multi-tenant solutions - Hands-on experience running services on Kubernetes, with cloud platforms and CI/CD - Proven experience delivering scalable APIs and reliable backend services Bonus Points - Familiarity with Node.js and TypeScript for tooling, scripting, and performance-test suites (e.g. k6) - Working knowledge of modern frontend frameworks (React/Vue) - enough to collaborate effectively with frontend teams and design APIs they love to consume Intellistack is an equal opportunity employer, passionately committed to equitable hiring and boldly dedicated to diversity in our work and teams.
