We’re growing fast — since our founding in 2019, we’ve grown to over 6 million users across 600,000 businesses. Based in San Francisco, we've been named a LinkedIn Top Startup, are valued at over $1 billion, and are backed by leading investors. Join us in our mission to uplevel how people do work. How we work We aim to be the place where exceptional people come to do the best work of their careers and we have intentionally built a team of the kindest, smartest people you’ll ever meet. Our values are core to who we are and shape who joins us on our mission: - Accelerate impact - Raise the bar - Make our users heroes - Clear is kind - Rapid learning machine - One team one dream We live to see our customers’ faces light up when they realize the magic of Scribe. We bring our whole selves to work. We work smart and incredibly fast. We raise the bar. And we love what we do. About the role This is a career-defining opportunity for someone who sits at the intersection of three disciplines: editorial, communications, and brand. We're looking for someone who can use them together to own how Scribe and our founders show up in the world. You'll be the connection point between what our product is doing, what our founders are saying, and how the company is perceived in the market. You won't wait to be handed a narrative. You'll come with a strong POV and pressure-test it with the right people. You’ll ensure the story we're telling in a press release, a LinkedIn or X post, and an investor conversation is the right story, adapted for each audience. Our founders are authentic, independent thinkers, Scribe is a Series C AI startup at a critical growth stage, and the category we've created is evolving in real time. This work has been proven out, and now it needs a leader to take it to the next level. This is not a role for someone who measures success by press mentions. You'll know a story landed when enterprise buyers are repeating our story back to us, investors are forwarding articles, and the candidates we want to hire are paying attention. You could be a great fit if: Editorial - Fresh ideas: You have a sharp editorial sense and generate ideas that feel fresh to what's new and now, across AI, tech, and the broader cultural conversation. - Opinionated POV: You have a strong POV and come to the table saying "here's the story I think we should tell, here's why, and here's how." With external stories, you find the angle and know what's worth publishing. With internal ones, you know when something will land and can translate it across functions. Communications - Cultural fluency: You have deep cultural fluency and sharp instincts for timing. You live at the center of the AI zeitgeist and VC X chatter, and you know when a moment is an opportunity, and how to move fast enough to capitalize on it. - Excellence: You’ve seen what great comms teams look like, and you're ready to lead the function yourself. Brand - Category builder: You've helped shape a narrative in a new or forming category. You understand how to make claims about where the market is going and positioned a company as the one leading the way. You have a strong pulse on the current AI and tech landscape. - Founder whisperer: You thrive working directly with founders. You understand the difference between what they say and what the company says, and you can bring out their authentic voice without losing your own judgment. How you create - Creator: You likely have a creative outlet of your own, like a Substack, a social following, or a body of ghost-written or longform work. You know what it takes to build an audience because you've done it, or helped someone else do it. - AI-native: You're an early AI adopter, already using AI in ways most people haven't thought of yet. It shows in how fast you learn and decide. If you’re reading this thinking “that’s me!”, we want to meet you! This role is not for you if - You report success with a list of placements - You wait to be briefed before proposing a story. You need someone else to hand you the narrative before you can run with it. - You are not confident in your ability to write compelling content or develop unique angles - You have only worked at big companies with established brand & comms teams and are not yet familiar with successfully navigating a startup our size (we’re <200 people) - Complex challenges drain your energy rather than fuel it - You are focused on leading a team; this is a senior IC role for the medium term What you’ll do Editorial - Market perception: Own how Scribe is perceived by our core audiences: enterprise buyers, investors, and top talent. You'll shape the narrative, track how it's landing, continually refine it. - Speaking strategy: Manage the full lifecycle of executive and brand opportunities: evaluate inbound speaking invitations and proactively identify opportunities for founders, exec team, and Scribe to show up in the right rooms. You'll develop abstracts and prepare spokespeople. You know not every stage is worth the time, and you'll have a clear framework for determining which ones are. Communications - PR & agency management: Own Scribe's external communications strategy and manage our PR agency relationship. You set the narrative, define the audience, and build a systematic approach to news jacking, so we're never leaving a relevant moment on the table. Every announcement has a purpose; you define it, amplify it, and measure against it. - Crisis response playbooks: Develop and maintain playbooks for how Scribe responds to reputational moments, news cycles, and potential crises. Brand - Founder brand: Partner closely with our CEO to scale her platform as a founder and thought leader, developing ideas, drafting and editing posts, and helping her show up consistently and authentically across LinkedIn, X, and media appearances. Over time, this expands to other members of the founding and executive team. - Scribe thought leadership: Ensure every public appearance (on stage, in front of a camera, or in the press) reflects the brand we're building and advances the story we're telling in the market. Qualifications - Education: BA/BS degree - With 6-8+ years of professional experience spanning editorial, communications, and/or brand. You've done enough of both to know how they inform each other. We care more about the quality of your instincts than the linearity of your path. A journalism background that moved into marketing is just as interesting to us as a traditional comms path - Exceptional writer across formats and audiences. You can move fluently between strategic thinking and hands-on writing, and are comfortable producing polished work yourself (a press release, a LinkedIn or X post, a founder talking points doc, compelling long-form thought leadership articles, or a crisis statement) - An editorial sensibility with the ability to assess the fidelity of a story, know when there's a "there there," and get it to the right level of substance before it goes anywhere - A clear framework for measuring communications impact beyond vanity metrics, and experience developing a strong distribution strategy - Comfortable working directly with founders to develop and refine their public voice - Deep understanding of what moves enterprise buyers, investors, and top talent, and how to craft a story that reaches each one differently - Startup experience. You've operated with lean resources and made it work Nice to have - Experience at a high-growth tech company through a significant inflection point (fundraise, IPO, major product launch) - Exposure to analyst relations. You understand what that audience needs and how to speak to it - A background in writing, literature, or history. We take good writing seriously here Full-Time Employee Benefits Include - Some of the nicest and smartest teammates you’ll ever work with - Competitive salaries - Comprehensive healthcare benefits - Exciting and motivating equity - Flexible PTO - 401k - Parental Leave - Commuter Benefits (SF office employees) - WFH Stipend - Working from SF office 3x days/week At Scribe, we celebrate our differences and are committed to creating a workplace where all employees feel supported and empowered to do their best work. We believe this benefits not only our employees but our product, customers, and community as well. Scribe is proud to be an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer.
