PKWT vs remote contractor
PKWT is a fixed-term contract under Indonesian labor law with a local entity; a remote contractor agreement is a foreign-client service contract not governed by Indonesian employment law.
PKWT (Perjanjian Kerja Waktu Tertentu) only exists between an Indonesian employer and an Indonesian employee — it comes with statutory protections like limits on contract length and compensation when the term ends. When you sign a contractor agreement directly with a foreign company, you are not an employee under Indonesian labor law at all, so PKWT (and PKWTT) protections simply do not apply to that relationship.
This matters when comparing offers: a lower-paying local PKWT job carries labor-law protections a higher-paying foreign contractor role does not. Read the actual contract terms — payment, notice, termination — rather than assuming Indonesian labor law fills the gaps on a foreign contractor agreement.
