Resume vs CV

In short

A resume is a short, one-to-two-page summary of your relevant experience tailored to a job; a CV (curriculum vitae) is a longer, complete record of your academic and professional history.

In the US and most remote-hiring contexts, employers ask for a resume: concise, targeted, and results-focused. In academia and some regions, 'CV' means a full multi-page document listing publications, research, and education.

In Indonesia the two words are often used interchangeably to mean the one-to-two-page application document. When applying to a foreign remote role, follow the US meaning: keep it short and tailor it to each posting.

Frequently asked questions about Resume vs CV

Should I send a resume or a CV for a remote job abroad?

For most remote jobs at US or global companies, send a resume: a focused one-to-two-page document tailored to the role. Reserve a long academic CV for research or academic positions that specifically ask for one.
