Equity & RSUs

In short

Equity is a share of ownership in a company offered as part of pay; RSUs (restricted stock units) are a common form where you receive company shares that vest over time.

Startups and tech companies often add equity on top of salary to align you with the company's success. RSUs vest on a schedule — for example, 25% after one year, then monthly — so you keep more the longer you stay. Equity can be worth a lot or nothing; treat it as upside, not guaranteed cash.
